We are pleased to invite you to a new exhibit entitled “Berkeley and Inverness in Conversation.” The exhibit takes its name from a chapter in the recently published book titled “Inverness by Design: How Berkeley Made a Summer Place” by Courtney Linn. The book and the exhibit explore how Berkeley families, across generations, have helped shape Inverness into a model of environmentally sensitive, locally guided planning where houses and landscape are designed in mutual respect. In the words of architectural historian Daniella Thompson, Inverness is the “least disturbed” among places in the Bay Area where Berkeley Brown Shingle houses were once built. Inverness was where generations of Berkeley families, including architects, planners, and environmentalists, worked out their ideals. The exhibit highlights the nexus between Berkeley and Inverness–two places that share a deep architectural and moral lineage.
